The Department was established in the year 1968 with Prof. E. C. Vasantha Kumari as the Head of the Department. Prof. T M Devasia succeeded her, as she assumed charge as the Principal of the institution. B.A. in Functional English programme commenced in the year 1997. The Department got upgraded in 1997 with the commencement of the PG programme in English Language and Literature. In 2014, BA programme in ENGLISH was started to meet the demand for a UG programme in English, since the BA Functional English had to stop admitting students after a period of three years of its inception for technical reasons. A number of dedicated, committed and hardworking teachers have contributed to the growth and development of the Department. In the past few years three faculty members- Dr. A Ravisegaran, Dr. U Hemanth Kumar and Dr. J Maya Devi- were awarded PhD degrees. Former faculty also include Prof. K.P. Jayachandran, our former Principal.
