Scholar Support Programme (SSP)
The Scholar Support Programme is a venture of the Department of Higher Education, Government of Kerala. This programme is also a part of the ‘New Initiatives in Higher Education Scheme’ along with programmes like Additional Skill Acquisition Programme (ASAP) and Walk With a Scholar(WWS). Since this is a Government sponsored programme, it is available only in the Government and Aided colleges in the state.SSP is primarily intended to provided additional support to students who are backward in academic matters. Five thrust areas are selected and eight students belonging to these subjects are chosen, thus comprising a batch of 40 students. Five internal mentors (faculty of the college) are assigned the charge of eight students. These internal mentors have to engage 10 sessions for the corresponding eight students, to increase their competence in the subjects concerned. A teacher from the Department of English is allotted 10 hours to improve the English skills of the students, from an academic perspective. In addition to these sessions, 15 hours are handled by an external mentor/ ASAP trainer to cater to the development of the soft skills, personality enhancement and communication skills. At present, the college has two such batches of 40 students each.Smt. VandanaViswanath, Assistant Professor, Department of English, is the co-ordinator of SSP.
