International Moon Day Celebration
The Department of Physics organized the International Moon Day Celebration on 30 July 2026 with the objective of fostering scientific awareness and inspiring students to explore the fascinating field of astronomy and space science.
The programme commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Divya N. K., Assistant Professor, Department of Physics and Programme Coordinator. The function was presided over by Ms. Neethu P., Head of the Department of Physics. The celebration was formally inaugurated by Dr. Kumar S. P., Principal, SNGC Chelannur, who highlighted the significance of International Moon Day and encouraged students to cultivate scientific curiosity and actively engage in space-related research and innovations.
The programme was felicitated by Dr. Jyothilakshmi S. K., IQAC Coordinator, and Dr. Abhilash E. S., Head of the Department of Botany. Both speakers appreciated the efforts of the Department of Physics in organizing an event that promoted scientific temper and interdisciplinary learning among students.
As part of the celebration, a Quiz Competition and Oral Presentation Competition were conducted. The quiz competition witnessed enthusiastic participation from students across various departments. The winners were:

The winners of the competitions were honoured with prizes and certificates, which were distributed by Dr. Kumar S. P., Principal, SNGC Chelannur. The Principal congratulated all the participants and appreciated their enthusiasm, scientific outlook, and presentation skills.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Krishnapriya T. R., who expressed sincere gratitude to the Principal, dignitaries, faculty members, student participants, and everyone who contributed to the successful conduct of the celebration.
The International Moon Day Celebration was a grand success, providing an excellent platform for students to enhance their knowledge of lunar science, develop communication skills, and cultivate a deeper interest in space research.

Report of Ripples seminar
Department of Physics, Sree Narayana Guru College, Chelannur organized an Inter National Seminar in hybrid mode on 16 January 2026. Dr. Vishnu Rajendra Kumar,(Assistant professor in Research, Department of Space and Aeronomy, Goephysical Institute, University of Alaska Fairbanks, Alaska,USA) was the resource person who delivered a talk on, "Technological Advancement in Remort Sensing of Atmosphere". The seminar was presided over by the Principal Dr. Kumar SP. Smt. Neethu P, Head of Physics department delivered Welcome Speech. More than 70 students attended the seminar. Vishnu sir discussed various aspects of LIDAR instrument and its application in weather analysis. The session was very interesting and useful. Many students were actively participated in the interactive session. Smt.Nimisha Babu Raj delivered Vote of Thanks. Following the presentation of the chief guest, students from the Department of Physics presented papers on various topics.
PHYSICS ASSOCIATION INAUGURATION 2024-25 "NOVAIRE"
In the academic year 2024-25 Physics Association "NOVAIRE" was inaugurated on 17-01-2025 at 10.00 am. The Principal Prof. (Dr) Kumar SP presided the function. Physics department Head Neethu P delivered welcome speech. Manoob VJ, Assistant Professor, Department of Physics, SN College Kannur inaugurated the Assiciation. After the inaugural session he delivered a talk on "Cosmic Calender". The talk was highly interesting. Rajesh MR, HoD, Department of Electronics, Dr.Divya N K, Fine Arts Advisor facilitated the function. Aaruni DP, The Secretary, Physics Association delivered vote of thanks. Students of Physics department organised various cultural programmes after the technical session.
SUNSPOT OBSERVATION
Department of Physics, Sree Narayana Guru College Chelannur conducted an Astronomy Workshop on 12-12-2024. College principal Prof. (Dr)Kumar S P inaugurated the programme. Department Head Neethu P delivered welcome speech. Break through Science Society members Dr. E. Sreekumar, V.K Balakrishnan and college IQAC coordinator Athma Jayaprakash felicitated over the function. BSS members J. Meera had taken a class on the topic sunspot.
