Sree Narayana Guru college Chelannur started functioning in the year 1968 under the leadership of the Principal, Prof. E.C. Vasantha Kumari, who gave much encouragement to sports and games. Sri. Ramachandran Nair joined as the Physical Education Director of the college and that time onwards college showed study progress and won many trophies. The former faculty also include Sri.Rajan. K, Smt. Anandavally C.P., Sri. M.K Radhakrishnan etc., and under their able guidance the college produced many National and International Players especially in Athletics and Volleyball in addition to various games like Football, Handball, weight lifting and Boxing. The present Head Sri. Jithesh CP. has been in charge of the Department since June 2021.
Gymnasium
A well furnished gymnasium is provided in the campus expecting to cater the needs of students as well as teachers.
Physical Training
Facilities for sports and games are provided in the college. Students are expected to make good use of them to develop a healthy mind within a healthy body.
Sports Hostels
Hostel facility is provided for boys as well as girls selected by sports Council of Kerala. Students thus selected are given intensive and systematic coaching in sports and games by expert coaches of the Kerala State Sports Council.
The Sports Council of Kerala has set up two sports hos tels in the college, one for men and the other for women, from 1997 onwards. A coach has been appointed by the Sports Authority of India to give them training in Volleyball.
