Activities 2020-21
National Service Scheme (unit 19 and 33) volunteers of Sree Narayana Guru College Chelannur has been participating in the fight against covid 19 disease. A vaccination help desk is working under the leadership of the Program Officers Dr. MK Bindu and Mr. Jithesh CP. Most of the volunteers belong to RRT volunteers and are doing a lot of services to the society.
Yadu A V (Secretary, NSS unit 33) and Nikhil Raj T (Secretary NSS Unit 19) are working as RRT volunteers and are delivering medicines to homes, disinfecting houses of covid patients. They are also cooperating with Cleaning of schools in connection with examinations and carrying covid positive patients to CFLTC.
Gayathri Ganesh (NSS volunteer, Unit 19), RRT Volunteer, is working at Vaccine registration help desk and is Cooperating with the survey which provide Homeo tablets. Gayathri. K (NSS Volunteer Unit 33) is a member of Student battalion team and RRT volunteer. Volunteers belonging to unit 19 and 33 are doing many activities in connection with the volunteer force which is fighting against covid 19 disease.
On World Environment Day,5/62020, cadets plant tree saplings in their houses. 73 cadets participated. In the tree plantation campaign. A poster making competition was organized in the topic Nature and Man. Lt.Dr.SindhuKrishnadas.T, ANO co-ordinate the activities.
On May 21, 2021, cadets observe plogging in different areas. The cadets collected plastic wastes and handed it over to panchayath authorities.
On May 21, 2021, Anti Terrorism day is observed by cadets by taking pledge against terrorism. 72 cadets take pledge. They make video against terrorism and released in social media. Lt.Dr. Sindhu Krishnadas, ANO co-ordinate the programme.
A webinar on Anti curreption was organized bi 9 (K) Girls Bn. NCC on 04/02/2021 Thursday at 5 pm. Sajan Puthiyottil, Assistant Sub Inspector of Police, Kasaba Police station, Kozhikode take class on Anti curreption. 92 cadets participated. Lt.Dr. Sindhu Krishnadas, ANO, inaugurated the webinar. Cdt. Bhavana deliver vote of thanks. The session was really helpful for cadets and they make it as an informative interactive session.

Tourism Club, Sree Narayana Guru College, conducted a webinar on the topic “Tourism in the Time of Covid” on 22nd May 2021, from 11 am to 12 pm. Mr. Robin Xavier(Assistant Professor, Dept of English, St.Joseph’s College, Devagiri) was the resource person. Ms. Anjali G S, Tourism Club Convener welcomed the gathering. Principal, Dr. Devipriya V, presided over the event. Mr. Robin Xavier, the guest of Honour, delivered a lively speech focussing on the challenges to the Tourism industry due to covid-19 and he attempted to suggest possible remedies. He observed how the Pandemic has had an adverse impact on the various areas of our existence even including the psychological domain. Only proper vaccination and Government support can resuscitate the Tourism Industry during this tough time, he opined. He ended his speech mentioning the possibilities of Virtual Tourism. About fourty five participants, including students and faculty members, were there for the webinar. It lasted about one hour. National Service Scheme unit 19 & 33 of Sree Narayana Guru College Chelannur celebrated Anti Tobacco Day on 31st May 2021, from 6pm to 7.15pm through Google meet to have an awareness of the Adverse effects of tobacco. Meet was inaugurated by Mr. Santhosh Cheruvot (Preventive officer Excise Enforcement and Anti Narcotic Special Squad : Liberation faculty in Kozhikode Department), was anchored by Gayathri Ganesh (NSS Volunteer), Meet started with NSS song, by Gayathri G R (NSS Volunteer) Welcome speech was delivered by Mr. Jithesh CP (Program Officer), Dr. Bindu MK (Program officer) presided over the Session. Santhosh sir spoke of the importance of spreading awareness about the dangers related to the use of tobacco. He pointed out how adversely society is affected due to tobacco consumption. He also drew attention to the harmful effects of sudden cessation of tobacco. An interactive session was also held. Ithihas Mohan, Aswin, Adithya, Gayathri K, Gayathri Ganesh, Anitha, MuhzinaNiyas and Maneesha EN, raised their doubts and resource person cleared it all. The International Multi- Disciplinary Webinar Series RIPPLES ’20 was concluded on 31 May 2021. The Valedictory Ceremony was conducted at 2 pm through the platform of Google Meet. The function started with the prayer by Miss. Sona M.K. and the welcome speech was rendered by Dr. J. Maya Devi. Principal Dr. Devipriya V. gave the Presidential Address and the function was inaugurated by Prof. (Dr.) M. Sabu, former Head of the Department of Botany, University of Calicut & CSIR- Emeritus Scientist at Malabar Botanical Garden and Institute for Plant Taxonomy, Kozhikode, Kerala. The report of Ripples ’20 was presented by the Organizing Secretary Dr. Joobi V.P. The College honoured Prof.(Dr.) M.Sabu for being awarded the prestigious E.K. Janaki Ammal National Award in Plant Taxonomy.In connection with that a Power Point presentation about his achievements was shared by the IQAC Coordinator Smt. Athma Jayaprakash. Sri. P.M. The Department of Malayalam conducted a webinar on the topic ”Pavasam: Anubhavam, Aavishkarangal” , on 28 May 2021. In the programme, Dr. Deepesh Karimpunkara, Head of the Department of Malayalam rendered the welcome speech. The webinar was presented by Sri. Shabu Kilithattil, News Director, Hit 96.7 F.M., Arabian Radio Network, Dubai. It was an outstanding session which had the touch of life of the people who stay away from the family, dear ones and hometown. The painful effect the Covid pandemic had on them was also discussed. The various obstacles on the way of research works and the methods to deal with it were discussed. The first session was carried out by Ms. Geethu Baby, Faculty of Education, University of Tasmania, Australia. She spoke about “Gender in Everyday Life”. The Resource Person of the second session was Dr. Lekha Rani, HOD, Department of History, All Saint’s College, Trivandrum. The topic was “Global Capital and Commercialisation of Agriculture in Colonial Travancore”. Both sessions were outstanding and informative. For the first session, Smt. Athma Jayaptrakash, IQAC Coordinator and Assistant Professor of PG Department of Commerce rendered the welcome speech and Smt. The Post Graduate Department of English conducted an International Webinar on Thursday, 27thMay,2021, as part of RIPPLES,the International Interdisciplinary Webinar series organized by Sree Narayana Guru College, Chelannur, Calicut. The program, which was conducted through the online platform GoogleMeet, at 1:30 pm, began with a prayer by second year MA student Nikhitha N. Dr. J. Maya Devi, the head of the Department welcomed the gathering and the Principal Dr. Devipriya V. rendered the Presidential address.
The focal topic of the webinar was ‘Post Colonialism- Theory and Praxis’, and there were two technical sessions by two resource persons from Italy, Rome. Dr. Abdel Latif, Writer & Executive Board Member,Maqasid Institute of Philosophy of Law, Rome, Italy, delivered the keynote address on the topic “Orientalism, Cultural Hegemony and Criticism: Deconstructing the Colonial Historiography”. Dr. Sabrina Lei, Italian Author & Publisher and Director, Tawasul Centre for Publishing, Research and Dialogue, Rome, Italy, handled the second session on the topic “Cultural Criticism, Social Structure and Identity: The Making of Indulekha”. Both sessions were succeeded by lively interactions with the resource persons and the program duration was around three hours.
As part of the webinar, a paper presentation competition was conducted among the students of English Literature and Mr. Nevil Philip, II MA English student bagged the Best Presenter award. His paper was titled “Parallel History in T. D. Ramakrishnan’s Francis Itty Cora”. Almost hundred participants, comprising of faculty from various departments, students and other well-wishers, attended the programme. The program was concluded with a vote of thanks, rendered by Dr. Maya Devi, Head of the P.G. Department of English.

The invited delegate was Dr. Nishana M., Research Scientist, New York University Langone Medical centre,USA. In the technical session she spoke on the topic “The Joy and Tears of Research.. Where Everything You Dream is on the Other Side of Fear”. The session was highly inspirational and motivational, which could create a genuine aspiration in the students to reach at heights and do research in their interested area. The discussion session was very fruitful and the resource person enlightened the students about the path they have to choose in order to achieve their goals. The Resource Person was Dr. S.S.Dessai , Assistant Professor in Hindi, Sree Sangameswar Arts and Commerce College, Chadchan, Karnataka. He delivered a talk on “Hindi Kavitha Me Jeevan Ki Prerana”. Dr. Suma T.K., Head of the Department of Hindi rendered the welcome speech and Lt. Dr. Sindhu Krishnadas, Head of the Department of Economics delivered the vote of thanks. The session was very fruitful and the students could gather a lot of information regarding the poetic world of Hindi Language.

The program was inaugurated by Dr. M K Bindu (Program Officer), and was anchored by Muhzina (NSS volunteer).Google meet started with NSS Song, by Adwaith M (NSS Volunteer). NSS volunteer Gayathri Ganesh delivered the welcome speech. Programme was felicitated by Mr. Jithesh C.P. (Program Officer) and NSS Secretaries Yadhu, Jini, Kavya and Nikhil.Speeches, Poem recitation, Singing, Mono-act and several activities were conducted.Vote of thanks was delivered by Aswin (NSS Volunteer).In addition to this online programme, a video was launched by the NSS volunteers. The video contained the students showing their affection towards mothers by kissing them.

The topic of the webinar was “Methodologies of Arabic Language Learning”. They discussed about the need to approach a language without inhibitions. Electronics Department organized a seminar as part of the InternationalMulti-Disciplinary Webinar Series Ripples’20, on 20th May 2021. Dr.Sujith R (Assistant Professor, Dept of Electronics and Instrumentation, Bharathiar University, Coimbatore) delivered the invited lecture on topic “Microwave and Materials”.In the presentation the resource person gave an introduction to Microwave, different materials used for microwave applications, the characterization of microwave materials and equipment used for the microwave measurement.The session was very informative. The welcome address was given by Sri. Rajesh M R, HOD Electronics Department and vote of thanks was given by Smt. Nimisha Babu Raj, Assistant Professor, Department of Physics.
As part of the RIPPLES 2020 Multidisciplinary International Webinar Series, the Department of Physical Education conducted a webinar on May 19, 2021 at 11 am. Sri. Jithesh C.P., Head of the Department of Political Science welcomed the gathering. The Chief Guest was Dr.D. Maniazhagu, Associate Professor, Alagappa University,Tamil Nadu. In the technical session he spoke on the topic “Fitness is a Boon for Holistic Care and Healthy Living”. It was a highly motivational session as health and physical fitness is a matter of genuine consideration in the present situation. After the technical session, Sri. On the third day of the International Webinar Series, on 18th May 2021, the programme was conducted by the PG Department of Botany. The webinar was on the topic “Ecological History of Forests in the Eastern United States of America”. Dr. Abhilash E.S., Assistant Professor, PG Department of Botany rendered the welcome address. The Invited Delegate was Dr. Marc Abrams, Professor, Penn University, USA. He discussed in detail about ecological factors that affect the forests and the history of forests in the Eastern United States of America. It was a very informative session and was followed by a fruitful discussion. Apart from the students of our college, research scholars and teachers from other institutions also participated in the webinar. Smt. As part of the RIPPLES 2020 Multidisciplinary International Webinar Series, the Department of Journalism conducted a webinar on 20 May, 2021 at 10 am, through the online platform of Google Meet.Mr.Ijas B.P, Assistant Professor (on contract) , Department of Journalism, welcomed the gathering.The Chief Guest of the day was Mr. HasanulBanna, Chief Reporter, Madhyamam Daily, New Delhi. In the Technical Session, Mr.Banna spoke on the topic “ COVID 19 Pandemic and Media Activity”. A senior and well experienced journalist, Mr.Banna provided an extremely informative and eye opening talk on the current developments in the media world, in this critical time of the pandemic.Mr.HasanulBanna’s session provided the participants with an awareness of how extensively the COVID-19 has affected our lives. Almost 100 participants, comprising of faculty, students and other well wishers, attended the programme. The programmecame to a conclusion with the Vote of Thanks proposed by Ms. Vandana Viswanath, Assistant Professor, Department of English.

It was an effective and informative session. Students had their doubts discussed and cleared at the end. The webinar was followed by students’ webinar competition. Dr. Jeothilakshmi S.K., Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce, SN College, Alathur was the judge of the students’ presentations. Students actively participated in the presentations.

First day’s Invited Delegate was Dr.Evdokiia S Slepukhina, Research Associate, Institute of Applied Mathematics and Statistics, University of Hohenheim, Germany. The talk was on “The Concepts and Applications of Bifurcation Analysis, Nonlinear and Stochastic Dynamics”. The multi- disciplinary annual seminar series Ripples was conceptualised in the year 2018 as part of the Golden Jubilee Celebrations of Sree Narayana Guru College, Chelannur, with the collective involvement of eighteen departments of the college. The programme is aimed to be continued every year to provide exposure and platform for the students who are socially and economically backward. The event gives an opportunity for interaction with experts of various disciplines.
In the present scenario of Covid 19 pandemic, this year the programme will be conducted in the online mode through Google Meet. The Manager of Sree Narayana Colleges, Sri. He spoke on the need to inculcate scientific temper and how to be enthusiastic and innovative in everyday life. The Environment Club of Sree Narayana Guru College organized a webinar on "Environmental Ethics in Times of Covid-19 Pandemic" on April 29, 2021. The Library Committee of Sree Narayana Guru College conducted a webinar on April 29, 2021. The resourse person was Dr. Mohanlal E.K., Senior Librarian at Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University Library Information System. Lt.Dr. Sindhu Krishnadas, HOD, Department of Economics presided over the function. Smt. Nimisha Babu Raj, Assistant Professor, Department of Physics did the welcome speech and Smt. Aswini B.G., Librarian rendered the vote of thanks. In the webinar session, the Chief Guest gave a talk on "Awareness and usage of e- resources with special reference to the N-List consortium". The session was very much useful to the students in the present pandemic situation, when everyone depends largely on e-resources.
The Sree Narayana Study Centre organized a lecture on Sree Narayana Guru on April 26, 2021. The Principal of the college Dr. Devipriya V. presided over the function. In connection with TIKA MAHOTSAV, NSS (unit 19&33), Sree Narayana Guru College,Chelannur conducted an awareness programme following the covid protocols. First year NSS volunteers visited their neighbourhood, and our purpose was to make people aware of the importance of vaccination and importance of being vaccinated, and then to make a promo video of awareness.
The NSS units of Sree Narayana Guru College, Chelannur conducted an online quiz competition “Urviyaan 2021” in connection with the World Earth Day on 22nd April 2021. Miss. Vismaya Suresh of !st BA Malayalam won the first prize. Miss. Almithra of 2nd BA Economics and Miss. Arya Das R. of 1st B.Sc. Botany bagged the second and third prizes respectively.

Department of Malayalam carried out an ICTEDIS session on the topic "Alphabets in Malayalam" on18th April 2021. Students actively took part in the session.

The volleyball team of Sree Narayana Guru College, Chelannur got second place in the Calicut University Inter Collegiate volleyball championship held at EMEA College, Kondotty.
The ICT Enabled Digital Interactive session 2021 of the Department of English was organized on 12-04-2021. The faculty presented a couple of new areas of literature and literature teaching using PowerPoint presentations during the session. The presentations began with a brief introductory speech by Dr. J Maya Devi, Head of the Department. The first presentation was by Ms. Sangeetha G Nair, Asst. professor, Dept. of English on the topic “The Voice is All: Enhancing Communication through Podcasts in a Zoom Classroom”. With the help of attractive slides, she explained how classes could be made more impressive on digital platforms. The attendees could gather relevant information on this new method used in teaching literature to make classes more effective.
The second session was handled by Ms. Vandana Viswanath, Asst. Professor. The topic of her presentation was “The Neuro Novels in English: An Introduction”. She guided the students EXCELLENTLY through some of the novels that comprise the new offshoot of science fiction. The presentation was followed by a very impressive interaction. The students, especially AjdarShahul, Nikhitha, Nevil, Rishisanker et al. actively participated in the discussion along with Dr. J Maya Devi, Ms. Vandana and Ms. Sangeetha. Dr.J Maya Devi, spoke about non-fiction by Dr. V S Ramachandran, which is similar to neuro novels, during the discussion.
Post Graduate Department of Econimics of Sree Narayana Guru College, Chelannur conducted an ICTEDIS on the topic Bitcoin on 10th April 2021.

Webinar on Intellectual Property Rights
A webinar on Intellectual Property Rights in Research was organised by the Department of Political Science on 25-11-2020. Around 100 students from different departments attended the programme. Dr. E. N. Sivadasan, Principal Rtd, SN College, Alathur was the resource person. He gave the students an idea on IPR related issues in research, copyright, plagiarism etc. Smt. ED Club Inauguration and Webinar on Aims of ED Club and Entrepreneurship in New Age
The COVID-19 pandemic created economic crisis all over the world. For uplifting Indian Economy, entrepreneurship development is one of the major solutions. Understanding this, ED club decided to conduct a webinar to impart the knowledge related to ‘to what extent entrepreneurs can empower Indian Economy’ with the title ‘ED club and entrepreneurship in new age’. District Industries Centre (DIC) Calicut supported this programme. The General Manager of DIC, Kozhikode inaugurated ED Club 2020-21 on 24-05-2021. In the inaugural speech he mentioned the economic crises and how can it be overcome. Midhun Anand, Industries Extension Officer, addressed the topic of the session, started with a discussion on ‘what is ED club, it’s importance, entrepreneurial competencies etc’, then focused on practical aspects like, how can we start an entrepreneurship, what type of financial assistance we can avail etc. It was a very effective session and more than 150 students from different departments participated in the session.
